2 weeks agoTeam Black,
As I believe you all know, Justice and Odin Peru left LHA last month. Many thanks to Justice as any of us who interacted with him understood his great passion for his coaching role. And we wish the best to Odin wherever he plays next - he was always such a smiley and friendly player that I hope we get to see him on the ice for another association in the coming months.
I wanted to send a quick note to introduce Rick Dmytryshyn and I as the team's coaches. We each also coach 12U travel teams so we thought it best to work together on this. I am the head coach of my 12U team while Rick is an assistant coach of his team so he will likely have a bit more flexibility to prioritize this team in the case of a conflict. For example I will miss tomorrow morning's 8U practice as I need to coach my 12U game up in Northern Colorado but Rick will be there.
We know many but not all of you. We each have been around the game our whole lives and played competitively. Rick, a Canadian farm boy, played high-level Canadian junior hockey and I, a good Minnesotan (Go USA!), played collegiately and professionally. I think this experience is relevant as we understand the importance of 8U development but also have an appropriate perspective on where these kids are in their hockey journey, and what that path could look like through Rec or Travel hockey.
Rick and I, combined, have a good amount of 8U coaching experience. Between Hudson and Carter, my older son, this is my 9th 8U team across three associations. And I would guess Rick has a very similar 8U coaching tenure between Aspen and Harry, his 11yo. I have learned and grown each of these seasons so while Rick and I have significant experience coaching at this level, we certainly don't think we know it all. Just as it is for the kids, it's fun for us to develop.
With that, I would encourage any of you to reach out to one or both of us with questions or feedback. As they say, no question is a bad one. Whether it is about one of our practices, your child's specific development or what hockey looks like after 8U, we would enjoy discussing. Additionally, I sit on the Board at LHA so am fully vested in hearing feedback - good or bad. Like all organizations, LHA (and the 8U program) has growth opportunities so any input you wish to share would be valued.
Best,
Stuart and Rick
