8U Girls

LHA is very committed to growing the game of women’s hockey, and that starts at the 8U level.

All girls will be part of our “normal” (co-ed) 8U program. They will be placed on a co-ed 8U team, play with their co-ed team at jamborees and LHA-cup weekends, and practice with their group of co-ed teams during the course of the year.

In addition to the regular 8U LHA programming, all girls are invited to attend Friday night all-girls skates. These skates combine the girls from all levels (Beginner, Intermediate, and Advanced) together, and are a good way for girls to enjoy the sport of hockey with other girls, without the “crazy boys” blowing things up. These skates are at no additional cost. And every girl gets a jersey! (Pink for beginner, Purple for Advanced/Intermediate).

Girls are invited to participate as all-girls teams at jamborees not traditionally attended by LHA teams. These jamborees can include:

  • The Arvada Thanksgiving Mite Jam, held the weekend after Thanksgiving (note: Intermediate Only)
  • The Laramie Super 8’s jamboree, held in Laramie WY.
  • The Cheyenne Capitals Cup, held in Cheyenne WY.
  • The Woodland Park “Hockey Above the Clouds” Mite Jamboree, held in Woodland Park CO, January 21-22
  • The Pueblo Bulls Stampede, held February 23-25 2024 in Pueblo.

At jamborees, girls will be in either the Beginner group or the Intermediate group. The Beginner group will be composed of girls from Beginner LHA coed teams, while the Intermediate group will be composed of girls from Intermediate and Advanced LHA coed teams. These jamborees come at additional cost.

It is imperative that a parent volunteer (or volunteers) step forward to manage these teams.

Volunteering: Our effort at all-girls team and programming relies on parent volunteers, both coaching as well as managing. LHA requires at least one manager, and at least two coaches to volunteer, or else the girls program cannot form. Managers will coordinate jamborees with families (including collecting fees), and engage with the families to advise them of how the girls program works. LHA will work closely with these parent volunteers to ensure a positive experience
